Theatre Under The Stars<\/strong> is excited to announce the cast of Spring Awakening<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m so thrilled to be spending time with this music! I’ve spent so much of my time over the past decade listening to it, aching to be able to direct my own version,\u201d said Taibi Magar<\/strong>, the Director of Spring Awakening<\/em><\/strong>. \u201cAt last: I can! I am also looking forward to all of the wonderful local actors and artists we are working with. Houston has such incredible talent, I was blown away at auditions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leading off the cast are Sophia Introna<\/strong> as \u201cWendla,\u201d Wonza Johnson<\/strong> as \u201cMelchior,\u201d and Nathan Salstone<\/strong> as \u201cMoritz\u201d. Joining them are Austin Colburn<\/strong> as \u201cOtto,\u201d Blake Jackson<\/strong> as \u201cHanschen,\u201d Brian Mathis<\/strong> as \u201cThe Adult Men,\u201d Liz Mikel<\/strong> as \u201cThe Adult Women,\u201d Ana Yi Puig<\/strong> as \u201cAnna,\u201d Juliette Redden<\/strong> as \u201cMartha,\u201d Grayson Samuels<\/strong> as \u201cGeorg,\u201d Raven Justine Troup<\/strong> as \u201cIlse,\u201d Alex Vinh<\/strong> as \u201cErnst,\u201d Zachary J. Willis<\/strong> as \u201cEnsemble,\u201d and Katja Rivera Yanko<\/strong> as \u201cThea\u201d.<\/p>\n

As previously mentioned, Spring Awakening<\/em><\/strong>, is directed by Taibi Magar<\/strong> and will be choreographed by Marlana Doyle<\/strong>. They are joined by Music Director, Alex Navarro<\/strong>; Set Designer, Ryan McGettigan<\/strong>; Costume Designer, Jen Caprio<\/strong>; Lighting Designer, Bradley King<\/strong>; Sound Designer, Andrew Harper<\/strong> and Wig Designer, J. Jared Janas<\/strong>. Casting for Spring Awakening<\/em><\/strong> is provided by Associate Artistic Director, Megan Larche Dominick, CSA<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

When it debuted on Broadway, Spring Awakening<\/em><\/strong> offered a raw and honest portrayal of youth in revolt, shattering expectations of what musical theatre can be. The show earned eight Tony Awards\u00ae in 2006, including Best Musical. Based on Frank Wedekind\u2019s<\/strong> controversial 1891 expressionist play of the same name and featuring an electrifying alt-rock score, Spring Awakening<\/em><\/strong> follows a group of adolescents as they navigate their journey into adulthood with a poignancy and passion that is illuminating and unforgettable.<\/p>\n

\u201cSpring Awakening<\/em><\/strong> is a bit of a departure for us in the sense of the subject matter and in the modern rock score,\u201d said TUTS Artistic Director, Dan Knechtges<\/strong>. \u201cHowever, I want TUTS to honor recent exemplary theatre in addition to the traditional classics. This soul-stirring story from the late 1800\u2019s is remarkably relevant today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spring Awakening<\/em><\/strong> runs October 8 through 20<\/strong> at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts<\/strong>.
