Theatre Under The Stars<\/strong> is excited to announce its cast for Ragtime<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Based on E.L. Doctorow\u2019s<\/strong> powerful book about immigrants and the fight for the American soul in the early twentieth century, Ragtime<\/em><\/strong> is a deeply moving musical.<\/p>\n

\u201cRagtime<\/em><\/strong> is set in the first years of the 20th Century and follows the story of three families in pursuit of the American Dream,\u201d said Dan Knechtges<\/strong>. \u201cTwenty years after Ragtime<\/em><\/strong> opened on Broadway, the themes it dealt with are even more relevant today. We\u2019re still grappling with issues of race, class, gender equality and political clashing. I love works of theatre that give us some answers and inspire us to create a more equitable society.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leading off the cast is Ezekiel Andrew<\/strong> as \u201cCoalhouse Walker, Jr.,\u201d Danyel Fulton<\/strong> as \u201cSarah,\u201d Evan Kinnane<\/strong> as \u201cYounger Brother,\u201d Courtney Markowitz<\/strong> as \u201cMother,\u201d Ryan Silverman<\/strong> as \u201cFather,\u201d and Robert Petkoff<\/strong>, reprising his Broadway role as \u201cTateh.\u201d Maya Kaul<\/strong> as \u201cLittle Girl\u201d, Michael Karash<\/strong> as \u201cLittle Boy,\u201d and Noah Gamarra<\/strong> and Rayekeis Smith<\/strong> sharing the role of \u201cCoalhouse Walker III\u201d.<\/p>\n

Rounding out the company Doug Atkins<\/strong> (\u201cWillie Conklin\u201d), Kevin Cooney<\/strong> (\u201cGrandfather\u201d), Emma Degerstedt<\/strong> (\u201cEvelyn Nesbit\u201d), Chris DeProphetis<\/strong> (\u201cHenry Ford\u201d), Trey Harrington<\/strong>, Paul Hope<\/strong> (\u201cJP Morgan\u201d), Mark Jammal<\/strong>, Regina Morgan<\/strong>, Rachel Osting<\/strong>, Rebecca Russell<\/strong>, Stephonne Smith<\/strong> (\u201cBooker T. Washington\u201d), Kim Stengel<\/strong> (\u201cEmma Goldman\u201d), Josh Walden<\/strong> (\u201cHoudini\u201d), Denise Ward<\/strong>, LaBraska Washington<\/strong>, and Phil Young<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As previously announced, Ragtime<\/em><\/strong>, will be directed and choreographed by Marcia Milgrom Dodge<\/strong>, who was nominated for a Tony Award\u00ae for Best Direction for the 2009 revival of Ragtime<\/em><\/strong>. Joining her on the production are Brad Haak<\/strong> as musical director, Kevin Depinet<\/strong> as set designer, Colleen Grady<\/strong> as costume designer, Matthew Richards<\/strong> as lighting designer, and Andrew Harper as sound designer. Casting for Ragtime<\/em><\/strong> is provided by Associate Artistic Director, Megan Larche Dominick, CSA<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Ezekiel Andrew<\/strong> (Coalhouse Walker, Jr.<\/em>) A crossover artist of both opera and musical theater, Ezekiel Andrew has delighted audiences across the county. As a lover of Disney cartoons, Andrew has played several of his favorite Disney characters including King Triton in The Little Mermaid<\/em><\/strong> (LaComedia Dinner Theater), Kerchak in Tarzan<\/em> <\/strong>(Lubbock Moonlight Musicals) Quasimodo in The Hunchback of Notre Dame<\/em> <\/strong>(Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theater Company), and most recently the Beast in Beauty and the Beast<\/em> <\/strong>(White Plains Performing Arts Company). Other roles include the title role of Rigoletto in Verdi\u2019s Rigoletto<\/em><\/strong> with the Mississippi Opera Young Artist Program, Jake in Porgy and Bess<\/em><\/strong>, The Pirate King in Gilbert and Sullivan\u2019s The Pirates of Penzance<\/em><\/strong> (Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theater Company), and Jim in Roger Miller\u2019s Big River<\/em><\/strong> (Utah Shakespeare Festival). Ezekiel attended Mississippi College and for undergraduate studies and postgraduate studies at Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and the University of Southern Mississippi.<\/p>\n

Danyel Fulton<\/strong> (Sarah<\/em>) Favorite credits include: The Wiz<\/em> <\/strong>(Dorothy, The MUNY), Jasper In Deadland<\/em><\/strong>, (Ammut, Prospect Theater Company), Hair<\/em><\/strong> (Dionne, 2nd National Tour) Ragtime<\/em><\/strong>,(Sarah,The 5th Ave and Asolo Rep), A Trip To Bountiful<\/em><\/strong>, (Thelma, Capital Repertory Theater), The Wiz<\/em><\/strong>, (Dorothy, Harlem Repertory Theater), Ain’t Misbehavin’<\/em><\/strong>, (Charlayne, HRT), Time To Love<\/em><\/strong>, (Aisha, National Black Theater). Danyel received Audelco nominations for Outstanding Female Performance as Dorothy, Charlayne, and Aisha and BroadwayWorld\u2019s Critics Choice for Sarah at The 5th Ave.<\/p>\n

Evan Kinnane<\/strong> (Younger Brother<\/em>) will be making his TUTS debut! Recent credits include Gypsy<\/em><\/strong> (Yonkers), Singing in the Rain<\/em><\/strong>, A Chorus Line<\/em><\/strong> (Bobby) at the MUNY. Newsies<\/em> <\/strong>(Davey), The Mystery of Edmund Drood<\/strong><\/em> (Bazzard) Wagon Wheel<\/em><\/strong>,<\/em>\u00a0Equus<\/em><\/strong> (Alan Strang) Sons of the Prophet<\/em><\/strong> (Joseph), Hair<\/em><\/strong> (Claude) at the Boston Conservatory. He recently moved to New York and can\u2019t wait to join everyone in Texas to share in this important piece of theatre.<\/p>\n

Courtney Markowitz<\/strong> (Mother<\/em>) A now proud Houston “local”, Courtney has previously been seen on the TUTS stage in Mary Poppins<\/em><\/strong>, Into the Woods<\/em><\/strong>, Bonnie & Clyde<\/em><\/strong>, and Lizzie<\/em><\/strong>. Broadway: Jekyll & Hyde<\/em><\/strong>, opposite Constantine Maroulis & Deborah Cox. She appeared in the national touring companies of Spring Awakening<\/em> <\/strong>and Jekyll & Hyde<\/em><\/strong>. Regional: Legally Blonde<\/em><\/strong>, Footloose<\/em><\/strong>, All Shook Up<\/em><\/strong>, Joseph…<\/em><\/strong>, Oliver!<\/em><\/strong>, The Drowsy Chaperone<\/em><\/strong>, The Producers<\/em><\/strong>, among others. Robert Petkoff<\/strong> (Tateh<\/em>) Robert has appeared at TUTS as Bruce in Fun Home<\/em> <\/strong>and King Arthur in Camelot<\/em><\/strong>. Broadway credits include All The Way<\/em><\/strong>, Anything Goes<\/em><\/strong>, Ragtime<\/em><\/strong>, SPAMALOT<\/em><\/strong>, Fiddler On The Roof<\/em><\/strong> and Epic Proportions<\/em><\/strong>. Film and TV credits include “Irrational Man”, “Vice Versa”, “Law & Order”, “Madame Secretary”, “Elementary” and “The Good Wife”. Robert is also an award winning audiobook narrator.<\/p>\n

Ryan Silverman<\/strong> (Father<\/em>) most recently starred in the world premier of the new musical A Sign Of The Time<\/strong>s<\/em> at The Delaware Theater Company. He also starred in the play A Comedy Of Tenors<\/em><\/strong>, the sequel to Lend Me A Tenor<\/em><\/strong>, at Papermill Playhouse and the recently acclaimed production of Finian\u2019s Rainbow<\/em> <\/strong>at Irish Rep Theater. Other Broadway\/NY credits include star turns as Ulysses Spelvin in The Golden Apple<\/em><\/strong>, Terry Connor in Side Show<\/em><\/strong> (Drama Desk nomination for best actor), Billy Flynn in Chicago<\/em><\/strong>, Giorgio in Passion<\/em><\/strong> (Drama Desk and Drama League nominations), Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera<\/em><\/strong>, Cry Baby<\/em><\/strong>, Most Happy Fella<\/em><\/strong>.
