Theatre Under The Stars<\/strong> is excited to introduce you to the cast of its upcoming production of The Wiz<\/em><\/strong>!<\/p>\n

Leading off the cast is Salome B. Smith<\/strong> in the role of \u201cDorothy\u201d. Smith is a recent graduate of Alabama State University where she performed in many theatrical productions including The Color Purple<\/em><\/strong>, RENT<\/em> <\/strong>and Carousel<\/em><\/strong>. Marva Hicks<\/strong> is playing the role of \u201cThe Wiz.\u201d. Hicks has appeared on Broadway in Motown The Musical<\/em><\/strong>, Caroline or Change<\/em><\/strong>, and The Lion King<\/em><\/strong>. Yvette Clark<\/strong> will play the roles of \u201cEvilene\u201d, \u201cGlinda\u201d, and \u201cAunt Em\u201d. Clark has appeared in numerous regional productions including Thoroughly Modern Millie<\/em><\/strong>, Showboat<\/em><\/strong>, Chicago<\/em><\/strong>, and Hairspray<\/em><\/strong>. Simone Gundy<\/strong> will play the role of \u201cAddaperle\u201d. Gundy returns to TUTS after starring in the 2017 production of Memphis<\/em><\/strong>. Christopher Campbell<\/strong> will play “Scarecrow”. Campbell most recently appeared on the TUTS stage in Oklahoma!<\/em><\/strong>, and has appeared in many regional productions including Holiday Inn<\/em><\/strong>, In the Heights<\/em><\/strong>, and Damn Yankees<\/em><\/strong>. Paris Nix<\/strong> is playing \u201cTin Man\u201d. Nix was last seen on Broadway in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical<\/em><\/strong>. Allyson Kaye Daniel<\/strong> is \u201cLion\u201d. Daniel most recently appeared at TUTS as \u201cMiss Jones\u201d in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying<\/em><\/strong>. Her other credits include Newsies<\/em><\/strong>, Ghost<\/em>,<\/strong> and We Will Rock You<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Rounding out the cast in the Ensemble are Dwayne Cook, Jr.<\/strong>, Teacake Ferguson<\/strong>, Lauren E.J. Hamilton<\/strong>, Jayson Kolbicz<\/strong>, Trey Morgan Lewis<\/strong>, Mariah Reives<\/strong>, Taylor Mackenzie Smith<\/strong>, Michael Anthony Sylvester<\/strong>, Roenia Thompson<\/strong>, Christopher Tipps<\/strong>, Raven Justine Troup<\/strong>, Mya Tucker<\/strong>, LaBraska Washington<\/strong>, Christopher Henry Young<\/strong>, and Phil Young<\/strong>. The production also features the following students from TUTS Humphreys School of Musical Theatre<\/strong>: Abriel Coleman<\/strong>, Bryce Gilleyen<\/strong>, Sydney Harris<\/strong>, Nevaeh Joseph<\/strong>, Hayley Prince<\/strong>, and Courtney Robertson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As previously announced, The Wiz<\/em><\/strong> will be directed by Robert O\u2019Hara<\/strong>, choreographed by Byron Easley<\/strong>, and Darryl Ivey<\/strong> will serve as Music Director. Joining them on the production will be Alex Jainchill<\/strong> as Lighting Designer, Andrew Harper<\/strong> as Sound Designer, Dede Ayite<\/strong> as Costume Designer, Aaron Rhyne<\/strong> as Projection Designer, and Jason Sherwood<\/strong> as Set Designer. Casting for The Wiz <\/strong><\/em>was provided by Christine McKenna<\/strong> of Stewart\/Whitley<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A hip re-telling of L. Frank Baum\u2019s The Wizard of Oz<\/em>, The Wiz<\/em><\/strong> is a jubilant tale of friendship and adventure. With music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls<\/strong>, and book by William F. Brown<\/strong>, the original production won seven Tony Awards\u00ae when it opened on Broadway in 1975 including Best Musical. The Wiz<\/em><\/strong> resonates with young and old audiences alike, and has had numerous successful revivals and a recent live, television production on NBC.<\/p>\n

The Wiz<\/em><\/strong> tells the story of Dorothy, who lives with her Aunt Em, Uncle Henry, and her dog, Toto. After a cyclone hits her house, Dorothy is transported to the magical land of Oz where she meets the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Lion who help her on her journey to defeat the wicked Evillene, and find her way home.<\/p>\n
