Emmy-winner and native Houstonian, Jim Parsons announced the nominees for Best Musical via video. Parsons, who started his career on the stage in Houston, will star in <strong><em>The Boys in the Band<\/em><\/strong> on Broadway next month.<\/p>\n<p>A program of Theatre Under the Stars, the Tommy Tune Awards recognize and reward excellence in the production of musical theatre by high school students and their teachers in the greater Houston metropolitan area. The annual awards ceremony will take place on <strong>Tuesday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m.<\/strong> at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. The\u00a0rambunctious celebration features\u00a0performing from some of Houston\u2019s most talented teens.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets will go on sale to the public on <strong>April 9 at 9 a.m.<\/strong> <a href=\"\/tommy-tune-awards\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After evaluating the 45 participating Houston-area high school productions during the 2017-2018 school year, a team of 31 Houston-based theatre professionals nominated students in 15 award categories.<\/p>\n<p>The following high schools and individuals were nominated:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Best Musical:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Foster High School \u2013 <em><strong>Evita<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li>Friendswood High School \u2013 <em><strong>The Hunchback of Notre Dame<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li>G.W. Emmy-winner and native Houstonian, Jim Parsons announced the nominees for Best Musical via video on the Tommy Tune Awards Facebook page. Parsons, who started his career on the stage in Houston, will star in <em>The Boys in the Band<\/em> on Broadway next month.<\/p><p>A program of Theatre Under the Stars, the Tommy Tune Awards recognize and reward excellence in the production of musical theatre by high school students and their teachers in the greater Houston metropolitan area. The annual awards ceremony will take place on <strong>Tuesday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m.<\/strong> at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts.
